Topic: Feature Talk / ProofHQ or alternative for oneplace

Hello Chris,

We have never heard of ProofHQ but will take a look. What we do now is just upload the PDF as a file inside of OnePlace and then use the built in comment feature in OnePlace to have a conversation around the file. Files in OnePlace also support versioning.

Topic: Feature Talk / ProofHQ or alternative for oneplace

Hi,
I have tested out basecamp. Right now I am testing and preferring oneplace. One good option for basecamp is having an API which allows some companies like ProofHQ to develop some sort of integration of PDFs and their system into basecamp.
Is there some kind of alternative or similar way to view PDFs and comments from within oneplace? Are you planning on doing this at some point?
Thanks.

Topic: Miscellaneous / How do I...

Cameo,

I can see your point that there is benefit in allowing each individual to shut off of the status notifications, rather than controlling it for everyone at the team account level. I will bring up your request with the rest of the team to see what they think.

Thanks for the feedback.

I do not understand why status notifications is a team account setting rather than an individual user setting.
Most of my teammates are in one country. It is probably of use for them to to be notified when each other is available.
However, as I am in a totally different timezone, it is of no benefit to come back to a inbox full of members status changes. A simple on/off indicator is sufficient for me.

There is a way to shut off status change notifications, however this is done at the team account level rather than at the individual user account level. If you are a team account admin, go to Settings | Team Account Settings, and then in the Team Preferences panel, uncheck the “Send pulses when team members update their status:” check box. This will turn off status change notifications for everyone in the team account.

Currently you cannot change your status via the OnePlace Dashboard, however that makes sense. I’ll add something to our product backlog for that.

There are a heap of settings for turning on and off certain notifications. But I don’t see one to turn off notification every time someone changes their status. It would be nice if status was indicated in Dashboard (red/green lights), but I don’t need a message each time. Or have I missed something?

Would be nice if Dashboard could access the settings available in the Web interface too.

I can’t see a way to set status from Dashboard.

Topic: Feature Talk / Calendar views

The calendar topic is a good one.

I’ve dealt with a couple of things related to the calendar as a general topic.
They kind of go together in a way.

I’m wondering what the possibilities of google calendar being able to be integrated into OP somehow. This is in keeping with the “one place” concept. I’m visualizing the ability to connect meetings to tasks or projects somehow, etc. keeping meeting notes in one place from those meetings, and attached to the particular tasks, etc.
Not sure how to make it work, just contemplating it.

Topic: Feature Talk / Indicating project status

Along the lines of “project status”....
Am I missing anything and/or would there be a problem with a project status ( completed) automatically updating based on the tasks within it being updated as far as completion and complete.
I guess a project would have to contemplate the number of tasks within it and the % completed on each of those tasks to show that. Maybe it could be something that is enabled or disabled as well?

I just don’t see us using that project status as much as I’d like because of the manual and arbitrary nature of keeping the % completed of the entire project up to date based on awareness of the tasks within it.
thoughts?

Topic: Tips and Tricks / Schedule your work

OnePlace has a very unique feature that is often overlooked by new users. You can schedule your tasks for a particular date. This is very similar to scheduling appointments. If you are like most people, you have way more work than you can get done in one day. You also probably have tasks that need to be completed a particular date in the future, like pay taxes on April 14th. OnePlace allows you to “Set and Forget” the schedule date for a task.

I wrote a blog post about this some time ago. Here is a link: http://blog.oneplacehome.com/archives/2008/9/6/get_more_work_done_schedule_it/

If you would like to learn more about how to use scheduling feel free to contact us at support@oneplacehome.com We would be happy to do a demo for you of this feature.

Topic: Tips and Tricks / Quick way to enter dates

Dates are all over OnePlace. Tasks and Projects both have several dates that you can enter. Each one of those dates has a pop up calendar associated with them (next to each field). However, if you are like me you like to use the keyboard to “Power Enter” tasks. Most of time, the dates that you enter are related in some way to “today”. So, in Onplace, we have made it very easy to enter a date relative to today.
You can can enter ‘today’ and ‘tomorrow’. But, you can also enter ’+5’ if you want the date to be 5 days from today.

See the following help page for more details: http://help.oneplacehome.com/getting_to_know/work_management#entering_dates

Topic: Tips and Tricks / Using Flags to keep tasks on your radar

This tip is straight from my personal toolbox. I have several tasks that I want to keep on my daily ‘radar’ but are not necessarily tasks that I want to do every day. A few good examples of this are customer support, project management and read a chapter in a business book.
All three of those tasks are examples of tasks that do not occur every day but I still want to track my time that I spend on them.

What’s a person to do?

Well, I flag those tasks and the keep the ‘My Flagged Tasks’ panel on my Home Page. This keeps those tasks right at hand but they do not clutter up my scheduled tasks on any given day.

You can flag a task by clicking on the small flag icon just to the left of the title of a task. That will turn it red and tell OnePlace to display it on your home page flagged task panel.

Works great for me.

Topic: Tips and Tricks / OnePlace Dashboard

If you have already discovered the power of the Team Pulse inside of OnePlace then you will love this tip. OnePlace has a desktop application called the “OnePlace Dashboard”. This application installs right on your desktop so you have instant access to Team Pulse 24/7.

When a new pulse comes in you will hear a loon (we are from Minnesota after all) and a notification window will pop up for a short time. This ensures that you do not miss anything. The nice thing about the popup window is you can quickly glance at the window to see if it is something that you need to take action on. A side benefit of the looking at the window is you will find that you always know what everyone is working on since OnePlace automatically pulses on your (and your teammates) behalf when you start/complete a task and also when you change you status.
You can read more about the OnePlace Dashboard on the OnePlace Help Website.

OnePlace is now hosted on the Amazon cloud . I am very happy with how this change took place and we can now scale OnePlace much faster than we did before. Our partner, Engine Yard, was excellent to work with during this change.

Topic: System Announcements / OnePlace Maintenance Window - 3.5.2010

OnePlace will be unavailable starting at 6:00pm CST today until ~8:00pm. We are moving the hosting of OnePlace from Equinox to the Amazon EC2. By moving to the Amazon EC2 we can add servers to OnePlace much more quickly. Also, the servers at Amazon are faster and have more memory than they do where OnePlace is now. Both very good things for performance.
If everything goes well then OnePlace could be available much sooner than 8:00pm.

If you have any questions please email us at support@riverocktech.com
